Let Teachers teach!
Elect RUSS POWELL for PHUSD Board of Trustees
Parents want their children to have access to quality public education and for their children to feel safe while in school. I support parents participation in their children's learning experiences and will listen to ALL parents and consider their concerns. If elected to the Board of Trustees, I will work hard to make sure teachers are given all the support required to provide quality public education for all students
I bring broad experience in working with school district boards and other local governments in developing funding strategies for public jurisdications. In working with elected boards, I have seen how effective governing boards work together to resolve important issues facing their communities. I want to use my experience to create collaborative working relationships with fellow PHUSD Board of Trustees.
About me
Putting My Experience to Work
I was born in Grass Valley, have lived in Placer County for 58 years, and lived in Meadow Vista the last 20 years. I am VERY rooted in this beautiful area. My wife and I did not have children, but we are stakeholders in quality public education, as we benefit from the positive educational attainments of all students.
My educational experience includes attending elementary and high school in Placer County, graduating from Placer High School. My public school education was the foundation for my educational and professional success. I attended UC Davis and CSU, Sacramento, receiving a BA in History and Masters in Public Policy and Administation, respectivley.
I worked in local government in the first half of my career. In that career I developed a strong understanding of public finance. In my current career as a senior vice president of an urban economics firm, I have worked with elected boards for school districts in developing school facility master plans and funding strategies for new school facilities.
My career arc has provided me with unique knowledge and experience that I think will be valuable to students and parents as a board member for the Placer Hills USD.
Observations

All residents of a community benefit from a quality public education system being made available to children of that community. About 1 in 4 homes in the Placer Hills USD have children age 18 and under. The other 3 in 4 homes benefit from the PHUSD education provided to students of the community by giving those students and their families economic benefits of quality TK-8 education. The TK-8 educational experience will hopefully teach students to enjoy and have fun with learning throughout their lives.
